Trinity Addison Mitchell is the eldest child of two for the Stewart family. Georgette and Winston Stewart welcomed their daughter the summer after they finished high school. She was the product of a high school sweethearts romance, and arrived in the world after a quickie wedding when Georgette was 8 months pregnant. It was a complicated birth and doctors believed Georgette could have anymore children because of it. They were content with one, yet when Kat was 9, after what they thought to be a bout of food poisoning, Georgette discovered she was pregnant with their second child, a son who they named Parker. Growing up in their home town of Denver, Colorado, and both Georgette and Winston shared a love of skiing, snowboarding and ice skating, making the most of the cold climate. Georgette was an ice hockey commentator and Winston a sports physiotherapist. Sport was very much in the family's blood, a gene they passed on to Parker but not Kat. Parker, who had a love for ice skating since he was old enough to get balance on skates, went on to become a Winter Olympic Gold Medalist at the age of 20 at the Sochi, Russia Winter Olympics. Kat, on the other hand, didn't follow in anyone's footsteps and grew up with a fascination for law enforcement, ultimately ended up as a Special Agent with the FBI.

Even if there was a whole generation age gap between Kat and Parker, they were still close. Kat was over and done with high school and well into college between Parker even stared his high school journey, though school was really a second priority for him. Skating and his Olympic dream always took precedence. It meant that once Kat started on her career path, Quantico-bound, and Parker was already well into being hardcore trained for Olympic material it was difficult to find time together. They always vowed to keep in tough, which would be a pact they both had to work hard to keep once life became complicated for Kat and ultimately ended up crashing and burning, with her resigning from the FBI and running away to England to try to a live a "quiet life", aka, bury her heartbroken head in the sand and try to wish it would all go away.

It was during her FBI training at Quantico that Kat met fellow recruit and Aussie ex-pat, James Campbell. Whilst in training, they struck up a close friendship with Alicia Connor (nee Sullivan at the time), who was destined for FBI Forensics, with a crazy-made genius mind for science that neither James nor Kat really fathomed. They were more for hands-on criminal work, where as Ali wanted to be elbow-deep in the gritty evidence stuff. Once training was done, after a few random postings, they all ended up stationed in New York and sheer luck landed Kat and James as partners when they began their field work.

It was the beginning of what would be the hardest time of Kat's life, with twists and turns she could never have saw coming. Kat learned early on James was a proud manwhore. He had one failed marriage under his belt from his teens that was doomed from the get-go and another tragic end to a long-term relationship when his cop lover of two years was shot and killed in the line of duty. In the wake of that, James was an inevitable commitment-phobe, yet it didn't stop him and Kat ended up having a secret affair together.

For James, it was just sex, blowing off steam, a bit of fun. They were close, knew each other's secrets and weaknesses, both having a wicked sense of humour together. Kat told herself she wasn't going to ever let it be more than sex. They were work partners, anything more would never work, it would ruin a good thing. All that rubbish. Rubbish Ali would call Kat out on frequently, which Kat would scoff at. James was a pain in the ass, there was no way she could fall in love with him. Only she had. Way too soon for her to admit. Perhaps even as early as their Quantico days, but she definitely wouldn't admit it, especially with James throwing his bisexual manwhore ass around the place like it was gold coins being proffered to the poor. He and Kat had their safe secret affair behind closed doors, each other's comfy slippers, a sure thing when shit was getting stressful. But James fucked around and Kat pretending it didn't bother her. She encouraged it, even, all the while deep down, harbouring deep feelings for him.

In the meantime, Ali had been dating one of James' older brothers, Mark, another ex-pat now based in New York and a hotshot, top of his field lawyer. Cocky, self-assured, rich, successful, wicked sense of humour (but that ran in the Campbell genes). It was a complicated relationship, and ultimately, Mark ended up cheated on Ali because he, too, couldn't keep it in his pants and had the manwhore gene like no one else. He was even worse than James. After the on-again, off-again tumultuous shitstorm that was Ali and Mark's relationship, Ali ended it once and for all after the cheating shit. Still, the Campbell guys were hard to shake and after a night of drinking, bumping into each other at a bar, Ali and Mark slept together again and Ali got knocked up as a result.

Whilst all this was going on, James had secretly recruited as an Undercover Secret Service Internal Affairs Liaison, which no one in his life knew about. Kat knew something wasn't quite right. James changed. He began to morph into someone different, though it all happened so quickly, she wondered if it was all in her imagination. Soon, he was telling her he was going on a trip home to Australia with Mark, some family business. He never returned. At least, not immediately. In fact, soon, word came that James had gone missing on his trip Down Under, and was soon presumed dead. But his 'death' was faked so he could go deep undercover in his new SS role, yet no one in his family, let alone any of his friends including Kat, knew the truth. All they knew was that he had been murdered, and Kat's life fell apart. She felt close to death herself from heartbreak, but couldn't grieve publicly because no one knew she was in love with him.

James' parents and his brothers were horrified and angered that the FBI caused their son and brother to be taken from them so tragically. Mark couldn't cope and made a sudden move back to their hometown in Australia, being unable to face living in a country which they blamed for James' death. Sam, Mark's twin brother, was in Africa on a five year contract with Doctors Without Borders, which he signed up for after losing his wife to breast cancer, and he wasn't able to get to his family during the crisis. Kat couldn't cope. Even though her family were still in America, she resigned from Bureau and ran away to live in London where she took a job in an art gallery, only wanting to make ends meet because she had no idea how life was supposed to work anymore. Mark completely fell apart. He developed depression which led to a serious alcohol addiction. He almost sold his company when he moved back home to Australia because he couldn't cope with being in New York anymore. This left Ali eight months pregnant and alone in her deep and painful grief to face the prospect of becoming a single mother without the two people in her life she didn't think she could ever live without. She soon gave birth to a baby girl called Jamie named after James, and affectionately nicknamed Sunshine because she was the one tiny shining light in an otherwise horrifically painful period of grief and heartache for all involved.

Meanwhile, James had been involved in an intricately planned plot to fake his own death, aided by intelligence with the US Secret Service. James had been recruited to the Secret Service via the FBI two years prior under a top secret plan for him to use the twenty four months to transition into a brand new life as an undercover Secret Service agent for a yet unknown secret taskforce deep in the cutthroat world of New York's upper class. To pull this off, James Campbell had to die, making way for the elusive and devious, British Marcus Fraser from London, a hot shot business tycoon and owner of the company Promantech, which was known to deal with "medical and drug technologies".

James, when originally recruited to the SS, never planned to fall in love with his partner. Kat's feelings hadn't ever been one-sided, but after losing a love in the line of duty, James was terrified to have a relationship with another person in law enforcement, so he had tried to push the feelings away. This turn of events nearly caused him to pull the plug on his SS recruitment, but was notified just before he left for Australia that the time had come. He spent close to two weeks deeply torn about what he should do when he was reminded of the reason he was approached by the SS in the first place. He knew what he had to do and made the difficult and painful decision to walk away from his life as he knew it. He became Marcus Fraser, an undercover Secret Service Agent at the helm of a top secret investigation parading as a rich, confident, and promiscuous businessman to break into the highly covert world of multi-billion business... and all "perks" that come with operating in those circles.

When James met Harriet Ryan, CEO of a large fashion magazine in Australia, she knew him as Marcus Fraser with them operating in the same socialite circles whilst he worked on his top secret investigation. It proved to be his undoing, however, when she blew his cover but not until they had already had a brief, passionate affair and she fell pregnant with his child. James had no choice but to return to his old life and reveal that his "death" had been to go undercover for the FBI. It took awhile, but Ali eventual forgave James and they're not back in each other's lives. Kat, however, never returned from England and she and James haven't spoken since. It was around two years later that Parker was chatting on the phone to her and revealed that, in moving to New York with his husband, he had discovered James was alive and back working with the FBI. It took many months for Kat to pluck up the courage to return... but she knew she would never find peace in her life again if she didn't see him one last time...
